Literary Junkies Link Up

It's that time again for the Literary Junkies Book Club.  And once again, I catch myself saying that I've been the worst book club member.  I really haven't wanted to skip all these months of book club reading, but that's just how the cards have fallen.  In fact, the book that they read this past month was one that I planned (and am still planning) on reading for a book challenge I'm participating in.  But, I just haven't been able to read that much lately.  And with school starting back, I just don't see where I'll find that much time to read, but I'm going to begin reading in bed again.  That's when I typically read the most during the school year, so we'll see how that goes!

Now on to the Literary Junkies Link Up questions!!

1. What are you currently reading?  Tell us about it!
I am currently reading Rome for Beginners.  I'll tell you more about it once I finish - I'm enjoying it so far!  And, most of you Literary Junkies are probably familiar with it anyways!

2. What is one book you think every person should read at least once in their life?  Why?
Oh boy.  I can't think of one book in particular.  But, I will have to say any book written by Karen Kingsbury.  Yes, she's a Christian fiction author.  However, her stories are amazing.  Life Changing Fiction is what it's called and it's so true.  She tells about the ups and downs of families, relationships, careers, life, tragedies, and everything else that impacts us today.  Wonderful reads!

3. Do you think you could ever write a book?  If so, what genre would it be?
Actually, I've tried.  I started writing a book for NaNoWriMo - National Novel Writing Month - which is in November.  I didn't get that far in the story, but I do want to revisit it and add to the story.  I did have fun working on it and it's definitely a goal of mine at some point in my life to write a book.

4. Do you listen to audio books?  Do you look for the same things in an audiobook that you do in one you'll read?
I have never listened to an audio book.  I have always wanted to try one out.  I think that I probably would look for the same things that I do in regular books.

5. Can you suggest a book of each type for others to try?
Fantasy- I don't read much fantasy.
Nonfiction- The Book Whisperer.  I'm reading it now and it's perfect for any Reading teacher!
Romance- This is everything I read.  Anything by Nicholas Sparks or Nora Roberts.
Classics- It's been way too long since I've read a classic...
Young Adult- The Gossip Girls series.  Such a fun read!

  2. I love Karen Kingsbury! Have you read the Bailey Flanigan series? That's the last series of hers I've read, but I've never been able to put down ANY of her books. They are soo good and offer such a great perspective on life.

What do you teach? I thought about teaching, but got a degree in Musid Ed and couldn't stand all the restrictions they place on Music teachers. (I would have taught elementary and just couldn't stand how limiting they were...I didn't know how to keep it fun with all the "rules".) Now I'm thinking about eventually going back to school for the other degree I thought I would pursue before I fell into music - Nursing! And that, I could see myself teaching or finding a place where I help newer nurses once I've done it for a few years...who knows if that will ever happen though.

  4. I agree with Nicholas Sparks and Nora Roberts, you can't pick up a book that isn't theirs. Gossip Girl were books!?

  6. Have you read the Redemption series by Karen Kingsbury? They were the first books of hers I ever read and they were absolutely incredible and addicting. I got my mom addicted to her books too. :) I haven't written many of her recent ones, but I'm sure they are awesome as well!
