I Have Commitment Phobia...With My Blog

**HUGE UPDATE!  If you are on the blog now, you will notice that it is totally different than it was earlier!  I completed my new design and uploaded it.  Ain't it purty!?!?!  I designed everything myself, with design elements from Erin Bradley Designs and design advice/help from the fabulous Lauren at Teach Pray Love Designs!  Please, please, please let me know what you think!  I read so many articles on HTML and CSS today, my mind is turning to mush!  :)  And I promise, I'll keep this design for a loooooooong time!**

---------------------------

In terms of my blog, I can't make a commitment and I'm so indecisive.  Maybe that is bleeding out into my life and is why I'm still single... ;)  Anyways, that's a story for another day!

Today, I'm going to tell they story - saga - of my blog designs.  I've had custom designs done, I've bought pre-made templates, and I've enjoyed each design for one reason or another.  The design you see on my blog now, is one I just recently (a few weeks ago) purchased off of Etsy.  I like it, I do.  It's a cute, simple, and clean design.  The problem?  I've decided that I want something more colorful...and more me.  It's hard to take a pre-made design and have it feel like 'you.'  It's even harder, I think, to tell someone enough about you for them to design a blog that truly encompasses you.  That's why - I wanted to try and design my own blog.  I've tried in the past, but gave up before I completely finished anything, because I wasn't feeling successful in the task.

A few days ago, I sat down and wanted to start a new design to see what I ended up with.  I quickly learned that I was in love with what I was creating.  It was bright, colorful, and fun!  And more than that, I felt that it was ME!!

Here's the header that I came up with...still a work in progress, but pretty much the final product.

Isn't it adorable!  I'm still going to add a menu below, I think.  But the main header is going to stay pretty much like this!  Now, here's where I need some help!  I had a few questions earlier and they were driving me iNsAnE!  But thanks to a few helpful bloggers, I figured them out!  My last question is this...the social media buttons (and the future menu bar) that are in my header.  How can I make those clickable.  I know how to use image-mapping, which I assume is how I would go about making these usable buttons.  But that gives you an HTML code, right?  How would I import the HTML code into the header?  Or is there another route I would need to take for this?

Here's two different backgrounds that I have.  Which do you prefer: the solid purple, or the patterned design?

If you want to see it live on a blog (just my test blog), click here!

What do you think about the design, which background would you pick, and do you know how I could make my header a clickable design?

  1. The patterned designs make it super busy - but then again I prefer minimal design and love your blog design the way it is now. :)

    1. Thanks for the input! I do agree with you about it looking busy...I've been leaning towards just the solid background!

  2. I think I would like the patterned design...or could you somehow have the patterns look more like ribbons down the side with the solid purple on the far edges? I don't know how to make those clickable...Megan at I Teach. What’s Your Superpower? designed my blog and she is awesome and probably knows that stuff! I think it's looking great so far...FAR more than I would have tackled on my blog. Good work!
